My basic rules are for students to be ready, respectful, and responsible.
Be Ready
Have your books, notes, homework, and supplies with you for class, each and every day.
Check the routine board in the morning to find out what is needed and planned for each day.
Check the teacher page often, especially after you've been absent.
Check the "While you were out" board after returning from an absence to see what you missed and need to do.
NOTE: Students who are tardy on exams days will not be admitted to class. They will be required to take the exam after school and on their own time. Students who are tardy disrupt those students already in attendance and taking the exam. Be ready and respectful.
Be Respectful
Please respect, at all times and in all situations, the following:
Yourself
Each other and each person's individual possessions
All adults, including teachers, support staff, substitute teachers, and guests
The property of Jeffers High School, including lockers, desks, classrooms, hallways, the lunchroom, equipment, and any other property.
Be Responsible
Be in attendance as often as possible.
Take responsibility for your actions. You are young adults who are able to make informed decisions.
Be proud of your successes in a positive yet humble manner.
Own up to your mistakes, admit them, apologize if necessary, and learn from them.
NOTE: I have certain penalties for late assignments and those turned in without a name. Students are advised of these penalties in class.
Behavior Intervention (depending of the offense, its frequency, and its severity)
Verbal warnings
Private student/teacher discussions
Behavior referral action sheet
Detentions (either with me before school, after school, or during lunch OR assigned through the principal's office)
Removal from class as needed (short time out or entire hour depending on the behavior issue)
Office referrals
Parent contact
Parent meeting
Suspension
NOTE: Students who are unable to proper manage their behavior within the classroom may be unable to attend extension activities outside of the classroom or school building such as field trips. Decisions are made depending on the situation, but students are advised of the potential to miss out on an extension activity for learning and would then be required to do an alternate but related assignment for class.
School-related absences
Students may miss class due to school-related activities such as sports, band activities, or for other extra-curricular academic reasons (participation in the spelling bee, math counts, etc.) When this happens, students are responsible to check in with their teachers IN ADVANCE of the scheduled absence to take care of a number of things such as 1. turn in any assignments that are due that day/period, 2. get the missed assignments, which are due at the same time as if the student was in attendance (no extra time given), and 3. check in to see what other instructions/material will be missed and be responsible for getting the material from the teacher and/or other classmates. Failure to check in with the teacher in advance results in a zero on any missing assignments/quizzes/tests.
